Wales manager Chris Coleman has said Aaron Ramsey could play ‘for any team’, bringing into focus his struggles at Arsenal.

The midfielder has started just one game in the Premier League this season through a combination of injury problems and competition for places at the Emirates. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has an array of top quality talent at his disposal in the midfield positions, which means Ramsey cannot be guaranteed a starting place and regularly plays out of his favoured position as a central attack minded midfielder.

It’s led to some speculation over his future, with rumours that the 25-year-old may grow frustrated and seek new pastures. Among those consistently linked are Spanish giants Barcelona.

Coleman has hinted that a move to the Nou Camp is a realistic proposition by stating Ramsey has the ability to play for any club.

‘Because I’ve seen him up close, in a tournament, I’ve seen the level he’s at, he could play for anybody,’ said the Wales boss.

‘There’s not a team on the planet he couldn’t play for when he’s at his best, there’s not a team he couldn’t play for.

‘That’s not a biased opinion because I’m a Welshman and we all love Rambo. I’m looking at it clinically. Playing in tournament against the top teams, he was head and shoulders above. He could play for anyone.’

Speaking specifically about Ramsey not being picked for Arsenal, Coleman revealed his disagreement with that call by stating the former Cardiff player would definitely play for Wales in their World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Republic of Ireland and was fit to do so.

‘He’s not played too much football for Arsenal, of course, but he’s going to start the game as we sit here now.

‘However long he’ll last, physically, we don’t know, but we do know he’s generally probably one of the fittest players playing football.’
