Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi has joked that he’s cautious about praising team-mate Mesut Ozil too much in case it gets to his head.
The Germany playmaker scored a sublime winning goal against Ludogorets in last night’s 3-2 comeback win in the Champions League, continuing his terrific start to the season.
Having scored 8 goals in the whole of last season, Ozil is now on 7 already this term and netted at a vital time for the Gunners as they earned a late win in Bulgaria to secure qualification to the knockout stages.
Mustafi doesn’t want to over-praise his colleague, but called him ‘incredible’ for his composure to score such a well-taken goal at such an important moment.
‘I don’t want to say too much because it will get in his head and he’s going to think he’s the best again!’ Mustafi said afterwards.
‘No, we know his qualities. He is incredible. He is calm in front of goal, I think I would have just taken the first touch and shot from 20 yards away!
Mustafi went on to say Arsenal’s focus now had to be on the north London derby with Tottenham on Sunday.
‘I say after every game that there is no point in thinking too far ahead,’ he added. ‘Because you have two or three days between games and there is no time to think about the Champions League anymore.
‘The game is finished now and in three days you have another one. The next game is Tottenham and that’s going to be important as well at home, so we are focused for that one now.’
