The France international has barely featured for the Gunners this season, despite previously being the consistent first choice up front for the last few years.

Giroud recently announced himself with two goals on his return to the team against Sunderland, scoring with each of his first two touches of the ball after coming on as a substitute.

Still, the 30-year-old found himself out of the starting line up again this weekend as Arsenal drew 1-1 with Tottenham in the north London derby.

Admitting that it’s been his hardest ever start to a season, Giroud explained how he felt when Wenger left him out at the start of the season.

‘The coach has given me a month of complete holiday, as with Lolo (Laurent Koscielny). They have the need to offer a real break to the players who went far in the competition in the years of the Euros or World Cup,’ he told L’Equipe.

‘I had wanted to play again quickly, but he really insisted that I take my time telling me that some players returned to their best level in November.

‘I thought I would start (the game against Paris Saint-Germain) because the coach had put me on the bench against Southampton three days before. But no.

‘It is in that moment, on the morning of the match in Paris, that I had a discussion with him. He said that I was close to returning. Frankly, I was hurt, disappointed.’
