Antonio Conte has hit back at Jose Mourinho while defending his touchline antics in Chelsea’s 4-0 defeat of Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

Reports suggest Mourinho was unhappy with the Italian’s exuberant actions in the dugout and the pair exchanged words at the final whistle in the aftermath of Chelsea’s convincing victory.

Blues boss Conte, who criticised home fans at the stadium, appeared to use the fact Mourinho did not play football to a high level as a reason for him not understanding his demeanor on the pitch.

‘I was a football player, so I know how to behave on the pitch,’ Conte told Sky Sport Italia.

‘There were United fans who kept singing, while ours were in silence after a great performance from my team. I wanted to call the crowd to applaud the players, which seems normal enough to me.

‘I have great respect for everyone. Nothing happened with Jose, especially as my behaviour seemed normal. I didn’t make fun of anyone, as I always demand respect.

‘Today, I think it is important to talk about the game and I say my players deserved this type of performance.’
