Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has offered an insight into how Jose Mourinho lost the dressing room at Stamford Bridge last season.

The Portuguese tactician, now in charge of Manchester United, suffered one of the worst seasons of his career as his Blues side hovered just above the relegation zone in December.

A 2-1 defeat to Leicester City finally saw Mourinho sacked after the worst ever defence of a Premier League title from Chelsea.

Mourinho has been given another chance to prove himself at United, but already appears to be encountering problems after a run of three successive defeats.

Courtois feels that the 53-year-old may struggle to keep his players onside when results go against them, saying that there wasn’t the same closeness between himself and Chelsea’s players last season.

‘(Mourinho) works a lot on tactical aspects and is also a winner,’ the Belgian told Marca.

‘He normally gets close to players, but when results don’t go his way, like last season at Chelsea, you could feel there was a certain distance.’

Mourinho is already risking the wrath of his dressing room with a public criticism of Red Devils left-back Luke Shaw after last weekend’s defeat to Watford.
