Depay’s yet to start a league match under Jose Mourinho and has been confined to EFL Cup and Europa League appearances so far this term.

The 22-year-old arrived at Old Trafford in 2015 on a £25million deal from PSV Eindhoven, scoring seven times in 45 appearances for the Red Devils.

With so much competition at the Theatre of Dreams, Depay’s situation is unlikely to get any easier and Koeman confirmed on Dutch television on Saturday night that he is interested in signing his compatriot.

‘I would like to have him, I think he is an interesting player,’ said Koeman.

‘He has great individual qualities. He just needs to play games.’
