Cristiano Ronaldo needed just six minutes to get on the scoresheet as he helped Real Madrid to a 5-2 win over Osasuna.

The Portugal forward returned to the side after his summer break after winning Euro 2016 and slid home from close range to open the scoring.

He then provided a fine scooped assist for Danilo to double the lead before Sergio Ramos’ fine header ensured they went into the half-time break three goals up.

Within the hour, Pepe had made it 4-0 and Luka Modric hit another to finish the game off with a low shot from outside the box, though Oriol Riera got one back shortly after and although Kiko Casilla saved a late penalty, David Garcia added another consolation before Tano was sent off.

Atletico Madrid picked up their first win of the La Liga season, hammering Celta Vigo 4-0.

Coach Diego Simeone had spoken of his frustration at his side’s somewhat slow start to the campaign, drawing both of their games prior to this one.

After a goalless first half at the Estadio de Balaidos it looked as though that record may continue, but second-half goals from Koke and Angel Correa, and a brace from Antoine Griezmann, got the job done in a 4-0 rout.
