Mourinho spent three years with Ronaldo at Real Madrid and guided the club to the La Liga title in 2012 ahead of arguably the strongest Barcelona side in history.

The pair reportedly clashed in the dressing room during their time together in Spain, with Mourinho berating the Portuguese forward for his failure to track back.

But when asked by Coach to name the manager who is the deepest thinker, Ronaldo replied: ‘I have played for so many great coaches, but Jose Mourinho was a big thinker analytically, he went into everything in great detail.’

Ronaldo also revealed two Portugal legends were his inspiration when he was growing up.

‘When I was younger I looked at the Portuguese players like Figo and Rui Costa, and saw how they were performing on the biggest stage – and I knew I wanted to reach that level,’ he said.
