While decrying the increasing number of deplorable roads within the Calabar metropolis, such as IBB way by Ekong Eta junction, the congress did not only thank the NDDC for its intervention at the Calabar-Itu road, but also appealed that such gesture be extended to the Calabar-Ikom-Ogoja Federal highway, axis.
“The congress commend the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for the rehabilitation of the Calabar-Itu road, but appealed that the rehabilitation works be extended to Calabar-Ikom-Ogoja Federal highway.
“The Congress also commended the Federal Government for the appointment of Justice Walter Onnoghen as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and appealed to Mr. President to follow already established protocol in the confirmation of the appointment of the substantive CJN within the stipulated period.
“The Congress also observed that intra-city roads within the Calabar metropolis are becoming littered with portholes, thereby obstructing free flow of traffic in the city and called on the State Government to direct relevant agencies responsible for maintaining the roads to do the needful to give the state capital its desirable look ahead of the Carnival.
“The Congress, while commending the efforts of the State Government for keeping Calabar clean and green, urged the government to do more as some areas within the city are still far from being clean and green”, the communiqué read in part.
