It may have come as a surprise to many, but former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho ended up sharing a box with Barcelona defender Gerard Pique at the ATP Tour Finals.
This is especially odd given that the Manchester United manager, who was taking a break from his struggles at Old Trafford at the London event, was on the receiving end of some pretty harsh words from the Spaniard in 2011.
The centre-back, who has been out injured since October with an ankle sprain, said four years ago following a 5-4 win for the Catalans in the SuperCopa final: “Mourinho is destroying Spanish football.
“There is talk about the Catalans, but the problem is with Madrid. I think it’s going too far. It cannot always end well. In the end this will end very badly.”
But the pair seem to have patched up their differences and were seen hugging in the box when they met.
However, it is fair to say Mourinho was on a bit of a charm offensive – as he displayed when meeting Dominic Thiem following the Austrian’s defeat to Novak Djokovic (above).
And the pair were not exactly full of smiles as the match progressed.
Perhaps it was a good job they were separated by an unknown suit after all…
