Michelle ran into the road almost crushed against by a taxi driver, who relied on his adrenaline to save him from committing murder,
Taxi Driver: “God punish you! Ashawo! Carry your winsh comot fo road! Idiot! See your yansh!” he sped off.
Michelle unscrewed, visibly shaken, whispered to herself as she ran down the street,
Michelle: “Oh, God, please!!! Jenny, don’t read the letter to him yet oooo! I wish I could just turn back the hands of time.” she waved down a taxi, “Take me to Lekki!” she hurled herself to the back seat.
The taxi driver, turned back and the stench from his mouth hit her nose really hard, it was almost fractured but that time the stench wasn’t perturbing she just wanted to get home.
Taxi driver: “Na 3k 5hundred oo!” he smirked.
Michelle: “Let’s go driver! Drive fast! ” her scream shook him, the car bumped forward as he accelerated it.
Taxi driver: “you harsh oo, madam! See as I fear!” he giggled after getting a hold of himself.
All through the drive, she was nervous and prayed that the time will stand still just for today.
Michelle: “Driver, can you increase your speed? I haven’t seen you overtake any car since you started driving.”
Taxi driver: “Ah, madam, take am easy. You want make I fly? You no see say hold up dey? Why you no use plane, now? Na your mates get private jet so”.
Michelle ignored his sarcastic comments and tried dialing Jennifer’s number but her phone refused to come on, her battery was drained. “Oh God, Dapo has ruined my life again”, she lamented.
Jennifer had just finished feeding Silver,
Jennifer: “How do you feel, uncle?” he grinned, “You feel better right?” he shook his head and she smiled at him.
There was massive improvement, the static eyes had started roving, the left arm and leg could now move little by little, she wiped his mouth,
Jennifer: “I’ll be right back!” she took the tray to the kitchen.
Silver tried to move his left arm and it moved smoothly, he did same for the left leg and it moved too; he broke into a smile as tears ran down his cheeks. Jennifer came in and saw how he was struggling to get on his feet, charged at him,
Jennifer: “careful, please!” she helped him seat, “careful,” used her hands as shield.
He tried to speak but the words didn’t come out, she sat on the stool beside him, beckoned on her with his head,
Jennifer: “Do you want to stand up?” he shook his head and gave a smile,
She pulled him up but his weight almost threw her off balance as she used the wall as a shield; he gave her an apologetic gaze,
Jennifer: “I’m fine!” she smiled and tried pulling him again,
He stood up staggering, she held him with brawniness,
Jennifer: “Good! One step at a time, yes, perfect!” she said led him.
They got to the door, he seemed exhausted,
Jennifer: “Are you tired!” He smiled and nodded; she made him lean on the wall and brought a stool for him to sit.
After few minutes, he gave her his hand and they walked back to the bed. Jennifer couldn’t wait for her sister to get back. Silver thought of his wife, he anxiously wanted for her return.
Jennifer sat down reading stories to Silver from her phone, that was what her sister always did after he had eaten most times it was stories from Adelove.com. He grinned as a hilarious story was read out to him.
Jennifer: “Oh!” she said remembering she’d been instructed to read a letter, “I’m coming!”she ran to her room.
The Taxi driver kept on chattering, it annoyed Michelle, she wasn’t interested as her nerves were on display, he told her many stories not that she was interested anyway but there wasn’t any other option,
Taxi driver: “I bin get small money bifo o! na Eko I fo grow but after secondary school I go stay with my uncle fo Bwari fo inside Abuja. Fo Abuja I learn plenty tins o! Unconsciously, she listened to his story but kept on muttering,
Michelle: “God please! Jenny don’t read the letter, please!”as if Jenny could hear her.
Michelle sat with her hands in between her thighs shaking, the driver flung a gaze the sprawled out thighs,
Taxi Driver: “Aunty yhu fine like tu pipul o!”
Michelle: “Would you drive!” she yelled at him and he struggled with the steering avoiding what could have been a fatal accident, “Nonsense!”
Taxi driver: “Sorry!”
Michelle: “I’m trying to fix my life and you’re here compounding issues!” she didn’t know when she let that out.
Before the driver could step on his brakes Michelle lobbed four pieces of a thousand naira note on him, pushed the door opened and ran into the house but the door was locked. “Madam, your change!”, the taxi driver called out but she was gone already.
Michelle: “Jenny! Jennifer!” she quickly remembered that her keys were in her purse, the keys croaked as the hands fondled with the keys in the purse, the door was opened and she dashed to the bedroom.
Jennifer: “ Hi, Silver, uhm, I don’t know where to start fro…” she almost jumped out of her skin when the door was bolted up,
Michelle: “…Please, Jenny, don’t, don’t!”
Jennifer stared at her sister with the letter in her hand Michelle stood fidgeting,
Michelle: “bring the letter, please!”Jennifer walked to her sister with the letter, Michelle snatched and tore it, Silver gestured for her to stay where she was, and scared that Jennifer must have read out the contents of the letter she broke into tears.
Jennifer ran to help Silver get up; Silver walked that time around steadily, Michelle couldn’t believe her eyes as she cried with a loud voice,
Michelle: “I’m sorry, baby! I cheated on you! I don’t deserve to be your wife! Sly…
Jennifer led him as he walked to her with a side of his body still paralyzed, smiling with tears in his eyes, beckoned on her to stand, he embraced her, Jennifer moved aside sobbing too.
Michelle: “I…I…” she stammered as he caught her lips in his.
Six months later, Michelle was two months pregnant and Silver had recovered very all though he walked with a stick, the doctor said with time he wouldn’t need that. She had decided to close the Dapo chapter of her life and vowed to never open it again. She removed her old sim card, broke it and threw it away thereby cutting every channel of contact with Dapo in the future!
