Cahill, 30, has been part of Chelsea manager Antonio Conte’s reformed 3-5-2 back-line which has kept four successive Premier League clean sheets, picking up four straight league victories in that time.

For the England international though, it is the men up the other end of the pitch who are fundamental for the Blues.
‘Yes,’ said Cahill when asked if attacking pair Costa and Hazard were key to Chelsea’s chances of finishing top by The Evening Standard.

‘They are playing fantastic. It is important to have big players who can change a game.
‘You could see against Southampton we were trying hard to keep a clean sheet. We worked hard on keeping the shape and were 1-0 up.

‘It is very tight when you’re just a goal up but then all of a sudden Diego turns and whips it into the top corner.
‘That is sometimes the difference in players at this level, players we are blessed to have at this club.
