The Spaniard, who joined from Deportivo La Coruna in a £17million move in the summer, was ruled out for six weeks after picking up an injury against Reading.

Wenger is now sweating over the fitness of Alexis Sanchez, who has picked up an injury while on international duty, and is left with Olivier Giroud as his only fit first-team striker.

But Perez has handed his French boss some good news by confirming he’s well on his way on the road to recovery.

‘On track for an early recovery.’

The news will come as great news to Wenger, whose squad had been heavily damaged on the international break.

As well as Sanchez picking up a knock, Hector Bellerin is also expected to be out for a month.
