Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Dave Umahi, yesterday, inaugurated 191 new sets of Special Assistants, tagged, ‘Technical Assistants’ by his administration.

Among those appointed is Assistant Inspector-General of Police and a People Democratic Congress (PDC) governorship candidate in 2011, Chief Kevin Opoke, who has retired from service.

The appointment is dominated by chieftains of the Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Congress (APC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Speaking at the International Conference Centre, Abakaliki, where newly appointed Caretaker Committee Chairmen of the 13 local government areas in the state, their vice, secretaries and the technical assistants to the governor, were inaugurated, Umahi noted that the appointment is part of the stomach infrastructure of his administration.

‘’This is what we called government of inclusiveness and government of state unity. Let me declare today for all our detractors right from the National Assembly to the liaison officers that there is no vacancy in Ebonyi state,’’ he said.

He said his administration will be spending N35million already approved by the state House of Assembly in the payment of salaries for the newly appointed aides, saying that the appointees numbering about 200 with expectant salaries of N40million is part of empowerment scheme to reduce crime in the area.
