Koscielny bundled the ball home in the 93rd minute to give Arsene Wenger’s side the 1-0 win but many believed the the French centre-back was offside in the lead-up to the controversial goal.

At first glance, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain appeared to kick the ball into Koscielny’s hands during the goalmouth scramble but pictures show it was actually the defender who made the connection.

This, therefore, would rule out the possibility of the Gunners’ captain being offside for the goal – but question marks remain over Craig Pawson’s refusal to blow up for handball.

On referee Pawson’s decision, Sky Sports pundit Thierry Henry said: ‘If he gave a handball there I would have understood that. I don’t think Koscielny meant to do it.’

Gunners boss Wenger, who recently celebrated his 20-year anniversary in north London, even admitted his side may have been slightly fortunate in the dying moments.
