The 38-year-old’s outing against Germany on Tuesday was his 167th for Italy, establishing him alongside his La Roja equivalent in terms of most caps.

Gianluigi Buffon earned his 167th international cap for Italy during Tuesday’s 0-0 draw against Germany, in the process equaling Spain counterpart Iker Casillas’ appearance record.

The Juventus custodian started the clash at San Siro before being replaced at half-time, during which he made a number of saves.

Buffon is already Italy’s record appearance holder after making his debut in the Azzurri shirt in 1997, before his international understudy Gianluigi Donnarumma was born.
