Webb retired in 2014 after becoming regarded as one of the top referees in world football, being handed both the Champions League final and World Cup final in the same year back in 2010.

Speaking about some of the key moments from his time on the pitch, Webb admitted yesterday that he regrets not sending off Cristiano Ronaldo during a Manchester derby after a show of dissent from the Portuguese winger.

The 45-year-old has now been discussing the figures he found most challenging to deal with throughout his career, and has picked former United and Everton boss Moyes as one who gave him a particularly hard time.

‘They can all have their moments, but I think the one that gave me the most stick…who I felt held no love for the refereeing profession, was David Moyes,’ he told the Daily Mirror.

‘He’d be quick to criticise me, not necessarily from the technical area – Neil Warnock was really difficult from the technical area.

‘But I would say in the Premier League David Moyes was the one who was critical of my decisions more than most.’

Webb added that the player he struggled most with was former Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester City forward Craig Bellamy.

‘I think the Premier League player who gave me the most grief would be Craig Bellamy,’ he said.

‘I struggled to gain a rapport with Craig. Again, being balanced, (he was) a great footballer and might be a great kid away from the game, but on the pitch he was always quick with an opinion and didn’t really want to listen to yours so much.’
