The 23-year-old has been out since September after injuring his ankle ligaments in Spurs’ 1-0 victory over Sunderland.

There had been fears that he would be out until after the international break, but Pochettino now seems hopeful that the striker can play at the Emirates on Sunday.

‘Tomorrow no, he will not be on the bench,’ Pochettino said on Tuesday, referring to their Champions League game with Bayer Leverkusen in mid-week.

‘It’s good to see him today, warming up with the team and being involved in some exercises. But for tomorrow, he is not ready.

‘Will he be available on Sunday? Maybe, maybe. He made half the training session with the team today. And then, it was a specific session for him and, for Toby [Alderweireld], it was the same.’

The Argentine added when Kane will return to full training: ‘Maybe Thursday for Harry; with Toby, we are not sure – we have some slight problems.

‘But it will be good for Harry, maybe Thursday, to start to train or to be involved in the whole session with the group.’

However, while the coach is happy that his star forward could be back in action soon – he has warned England interim manager Gareth Southgate to take care calling him up even if he plays on the weekend.

‘We want the best for the team and for the player. It’s true that maybe it makes more sense for the national team to say: ‘Okay, stay at home. Stay with Tottenham and train for two weeks,’ said Pochettino.
