According to reports, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele, on Saturday said that no amount of intimidation will make him stop performing his duties effectively to Nigerians.


He said this in a statement while reacting to the release of his wife, Mrs Margaret Emefiele, who was on Thursday abducted by gunmen along with four others and demanded N100m as ransom.

A senior police officer had said Margaret was abducted alongside three women and a male driver along the Benin-Agbor Road on Thursday.

She, was however said to have been released in the early hours of Saturday.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the CBN governor while reacting to the release, expressed gratitude to God, President Muhammadu Buhari and security agencies for the rescue of his wife, Margaret, from the hands of kidnappers.

The statement reads in part, “The Governor thanked God Almighty for the life of his dear wife who was rescued on Friday night and praised security agencies for their gallantry in bringing his wife back home within 24 hours in compliance with the directive of President Buhari.

“He also expressed his gratitude to the Delta and Edo State governments, friends and well wishers who, through their actions, prayers and goodwill, helped to bring this harrowing experience to a joyful end.

“He reaffirmed his resolve to continue to serve the nation diligently and with all his heart without any fear of intimidation.”

  1. Kidnapping is one of the stark realities of misgovervance and mindless stealing of money that should have been used to develop the country. If Emefiele is alluding to any other thing sinister by his statement, it verily means that he is far removed from ordinary Nigerians. He must stop at thanking God that his wife was released unhurt and on record time.
