EFCC releases Reuben Abati on bail

According to reports, the Bursar of University of Abuja and the Academic and Physical Planning Officers of the institution were yesterday grilled by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, over the utilisation of Tertiary Education Fund, TETFUND, intervention assisted projects since 2009.


The University has been under investigation by different anti-graft agencies over alleged violation of the Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Act 2000.

It was gathered that the White Paper on the Special Investigation Committee set up by the Federal Government last December was currently being awaited.

The ICPC in a letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Michael Adikwu, dated October 19, 2016, entitled Letter of invitation/Request for Documents requested the Vice Chancellor to release the affected officers.

The letter signed by G. T. Idris reads: “Pursuant to Section 28 of the said Act, you are required to inform and release the Directors of Works, Physical Planning, Academic Planning, Bursar and any staff of your institution designated as Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND, Desk Officer to appear before the undersigned at the Commission’s Head, Abuja on November 4, 2016 by 10am prompt.

“The above-mentioned officers should come along with relevant documents in respect of all TETFUND’s assisted intervention projects in your institution from January 2009 till date.

“The expected documents should include approved work plan of the period under review, all procurement records (including newspaper advertisement, minutes of meetings of procurement committee) list of contractors handling completed or on-going projects, dates of award of contracts and expected dates of completion (status of all projects from 2009 till date), evidence of approvals and payments and all relevant financial records”

The affected staff, who appeared before the anti-graft agency yesterday were the Director of Physical Planning, Mr. Sadiq Otu; Director of Works/Maintenance, Mr. Joshua Musa Ndirmbita; Bursar, Alhaji El Yaqub and the Director of Academic Planning, Dr. Ishaya Dagwa.
