Sven-Goran Eriksson insists he has no need to sign Wayne Rooney for Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG because he already has three top quality forwards to choose from.
Despite Jose Mourinho’s insistence that his skipper won’t be sold, Rooney has failed to start a Premier League game since the 3-1 defeat at Watford on September 18 and was dropped from England’s starting line-up for the World Cup qualifier against Slovenia last month.
Eriksson and Rooney enjoyed a successful partnership during the Swede’s time as England manager but revealed he has no plans to bring Rooney to China, with the South American trio of Hulk, Dario Conca and Elkeson already in his squad.
‘I have always known Rooney as a forward — one of the best I have worked with,’ Eriksson told The Sun.

‘But we already have Hulk, Elkeson and Dario Conca, who are all very good, as our forwards.’
Eriksson insists Rooney, who has been linked with a move to MLS side LA Galaxy as a potential replacement for Steven Gerrard, remains one of the best forwards he has ever worked with and will no doubt be on the radar of Chinese Super League clubs in the near future.
‘Everyone knows how much I admire Rooney. That’s one thing,’ he added.
“To make out we are going to sign him is something else. There is absolutely nothing in it, zero.
‘He [Rooney] is still a very good player with a lot of quality. I’m sure he could come to China in the future. He is the type of player the league will be after.’
