The Tigers found it impossible to deal with Liverpool’s pace, energy, slick interplay and intense high-press as they lost heavily for the second weekend in a row.

Lallana gave Liverpool the lead after 17 minutes, scuffing the ball into the bottom corner with his left foot after superb build-up play from Coutinho.

The little Brazilian traded passes with continued stand-in left-back James Milner, before exquisitely rolling Ryan Mason and advancing into space until the edge of the Hull area where he fed Lallana, whose quick feet did the rest.

Liverpool doubled their lead on the half-hour mark through a Milner penalty after Hull full-back Ahmed Elmohamady blocked a goal bound Coutinho effort off the line with his arm.

The Egyptian was duly given his marching orders and Milner stepped up to slot the spot-kick away low to David Marshall’s left.

Coutinho’s blocked effort had come at the end of another flowing Liverpool move which began with Roberto Firmino’s smart turn near half-way before the Brazilian fed Mane down the right who in turn found Coutinho with a terrific pull-back.

The outstanding Mane made it three just six minutes later after neat play once more from Firmino and Milner, before Lallana produced a splendid Cruyff-esque turn, fed Mane on the edge, who was given too much space by the Hull defence allowing the Senegal international to turn and reverse the ball into the bottom corner leaving Marshall no chance.

David Meyler gave Hull a smidgen of hope five minutes into the second period when he put the ball in from close range following Hull’s very first corner of the match, but Liverpool came roaring straight back through a breathtaking strike by Coutinho a minute later, as his shot from distance swerved and dipped past a hapless Marshall.

After 71 minutes, Milner tucked away his second penalty of the game after substitute Daniel Sturridge had been upended by Hull left-back Andrew Robertson to leave the score 5-1.
