The Daily Record claims that United are wary of missing out on the 21-year-old, who has scored nine goals in 14 appearances this season, and are ready to compete with City, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Silva only made his first-team debut in January but has since signed a new deal with a €60 million (£51m) release clause.

The Portugal international could be viewed as a potential long-term replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
