According to reports, the estranged wife of the son of former President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Mr. Mohammed Badamasi Babangida, has petitioned President Mohammadu Buhari over attempted forceful abduction of two of her children by her ex-husband from their school in Abuja.

In a petition dated November 9, 2016 and signed by a former Attorney General of Nasarawa State, Mr. Innocent Lagi, Ms Yakolo Indimi, has alleged numerous acts of arbitrary abuse of power and privileges by Babangida, using The Nigerian Police, blackmail and threat to judges handling the issue of child custody of their children.

Ms Indimi had alleged that on November 9, 2016 at about 3pm, her husband, Babangida, attempted, as he had done previously, to forcefully take her children, using officers of The Nigerian Police Force (NPF), from their school at Katampe, Abuja. The petition alleged that the police men involved are Sunday Ubua, with phone number 08033129778, and Musa Maji, with police identification No. 158593.

According to the petitioner, Mr. Babangida began his forceful quest of the children after his divorce with his wife in December 2015, and he allegedly lured her to visit his father in Minna with the children.

The petitioner alleged that after the visit, Mr. Babangida unlawfully detained her and refused to let her go. When he eventually let her go, he would not allow her go with her children, namely Maryam Mohammed Babangida (10 years old), Fatima Mohammed Babangida (nine), Ibrahim Mohammed Babangida (seven) and Mohammed Mohammed Babangida (five).

The petition read in part: “Our client had reached out severally through relatives and emails to Mr. Babangida to reconsider his actions and let her have the children back to no avail. Mr. Babangida eventually returned the four kids to our client in June 2016.”
