The 53-year-old was sent to the stands by referee Jon Moss in the first half of the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford for kicking a water bottle in frustration after Paul Pogba received a yellow card for simulation.

Television replays have shown that Moss’ decision to caution the United midfielder was correct.

Mourinho now faces a two-game ban after he received another touchline suspension earlier this season and missed the victory over Swansea City.

A statement from the FA read: ‘Jose Mourinho has been charged following Manchester United’s game against West Ham United on Sunday [27 November 2016].

‘It is alleged his behaviour in or around the 27th minute of the game amounts to improper conduct.

‘He has until 6pm on 1 December 2016 to respond to the charge.’
