Prof Umar Garba Danbatta, executive vice chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has expressed the Commissions readiness to aid in the acceleration of innovations by young Nigerians in the telecommunications sector.

Danbatta said this at the ITU World Conference 2016, stating that the mandate of the Commission was to identify young people with ideas and accelerate the innovations in order to help in the development of the nation’s economy.

He added that the Commission would collaborate with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) and National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) to turn the dreams of young Nigerians to reality.

“We pray it will accelerate the change we so much desire. Innovations change the way we do things in a most effective and sufficient manner. From what I have seen, these young Nigerians have come up with innovations that will make a difference and the way and manner we do things.

“Our mandate is to identify innovations and accelerate the process of innovation.

“There are agencies of government that are supposed to escalate the innovation to the next stage. We do the head hunting, we find young Nigerians with ideas they have translated into innovation. We draw attention to them, through collaboration with other agencies of government, given mandate to escalate the innovation to the next level,” he said.

Eight young innovators from Nigeria attended the ITU World Conference in Bangkok, Thailand to showcase their innovation to the world.

The innovators include, Chinemere Ezekwesili, Awodi Friday, Sanusi Ismalia, Ifediora Ugochukwu, By Akin-Alabi, Mubarak Ahmed, Daser Retnan and Muazu Adamu.

Speaking during an interview at the Nigerian Pavilion, Friday,one of the innovators, explained that his innovation called the Awodi power machine was a sustainable environmental friendly electricity generating machine adding that it was a hybrid system that uses two way drive top that operate for both indoor and outdoor loads capacities varying from 2kvA to 2000mw of electricity.

He added that it was viable for erratic power supply and elimination of noise and air pollution that emanate from conventional mechanical engines.

Another inventor, Mubarak Ahmed stated that his innovation, Intelligent Security and Emergency Device, ISED was an electronic device that provides security services to homes, offices and automobiles .

  1. Nice one! Nigeria is never short of geniuses, it's just need support from govt. And the corporate world to support them for research and development.
