The commission at its plenary meeting on Thursday in Abuja, also rejected the recommendation of the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, for special promotion of 12 officers.

These were part of the decisions taken by the Commission on 55 disciplinary cases brought before it, a statement on Thursday in Abuja by the Head, Press and Public Relations, PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, stated.

It explained that the commission rejected the recommendation for special promotion of one Deputy Superintendent of Police and one Inspector and also returned the recommendation for the appointment of a Deputy Commissioner of Police on acting capacity for proper presentation.

“It also withheld the special promotion of nine other senior police officers for failure of the police to provide convincing reasons for such promotions,” the statement added.

The PSC however promoted 135 officers, including four Deputy Commissioners of Police to the next rank of Commissioners, adding that the CPs had earlier appeared before the commission, where they were subjected to questions on the change agenda of the Nigeria Police Force.

The new CPs are, Posi Ajunwa; Akinsanmi Ayo; Kenneth Ebrimson and Akpoebi Egbuson.

Meanwhile, the IG has canvassed for a better funding of the police, noting that the force needed more than 10,000 personnel to fill the vacuum created by those who died or retired.
