According to reports, the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, has disclosed that the Federal Government led by All Progressive Congress (APC) has six months left to fix the economic recession in the country before election campaign commences in 2017.


Saraki who stated this while speaking with journalists in Ilorin at his residence, said that APC government don’t have any excuse on reposition of the economy for Nigerians that need common food to survive.

He said, what the government need to do now was to ensure that more money were made available to the people, reduce exchange rate and compel officers on economy team to find solution to the economic recession.

The former governor of Kwara State who disclosed that his investigation among many Nigerians has shown that people are really suffering, stressing that those that were happy, smiling could no longer eat, feed their families and turned once happy people to sad fellows.

He said, a common bag of rice is now sold at the cost of N25,000 in the market, stressing that Nigerians are not happy with the situation.

Speaking on the likely action the Senate under his leadership would take, Saraki said the economic team and others in charge would be summoned by the senate for questioning, stressing that if necessary steps were not taken before April 2017,politicians would start their election campaign and leave the masses in suffering.

Saraki who denied insinuation that TSA might be responsible for the economic recession, said there were many factors that could cause the crisis.

He said that all Nigerians irrespective of their parties, regions should cooperate with government to resolve the problem.

He said that there was urgent need for federal and state governments to reduce cost of government as a measure to reposition the economy and cut down wastages.

On the tremor in Kaduba, the Senate President, said when the upper chamber resumes, NEMA officers would be summoned for questioning on what the agency is doing to curb the disaster and its readiness for such misfortune.

Saraki also said that the Senate would continue to support anti-corruption agencies in the country by strengthening its investigation strategies, noted that many cases involving big politicians were thrown out in court due to lack of proper evidence by anti-graft operatives.

  2. Saraki should first return all the money he stole and is throwing around everywhere
    He is from all indications a huge part of Nigeria's economic problem
