According to reports, the Nigerian Army has described as “baseless” an allegation by the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), that the former’s ongoing operation in the oil-rich region, was an alleged platform for”political patronage”.

The NDA had, in a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari about a week ago, alleged that the amphibious training exercise, was not well-intended.

“Operation Crocodile Smiles is nothing but (allegedly) a conduit pipe for military contracts, political profiteers and patronages designed for the stress of your administration’s scarce resources…”, the NDA had said, among others.

However, the Army, in a text message sent by its spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, denied the allegation, saying its men were fully on ground conducting the target operation.

“This are baseless allegations. If you believe it, you’ll believe anything… The facts speak for themselves.

“We are fully here on the ground exercising the troops. The criminals are so afraid that they dare not perpetuate any act of criminality.

“We remain focussed and determined in our bid of ensuring peace and security in our country,” Usman said.
