Patrice Evra has revealed that former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes was the only player to never receive the famous ‘hairdryer treatment’ from Sir Alex Ferguson.

Mark Hughes coined the term ‘hairdryer’ in the 90s in reference to the changing room rants from the former United boss, and you need to look no further than the infamous butterfly stitches on the eyebrow of David Beckham to know how serious it can get.

Ferguson ruled with an iron fist when it came to getting the best out of his players, it emerged earlier this week that a famous dressing down from the Scotsman left the great Cristiano Ronaldo in floods of tears.

Evra, who left Manchester United at the same time as Ferguson, revealed the luckiest player in Fergie’s 27-year tenure in a birthday message to the 42-year-old midfielder

‘Happy birthday legend!!! Simply the best midfielder on planet!!!’ Evra wrote. ‘The only players never get the hairdryer from the boss. Soo lucky. I love this game hahahaahahah.’

In a recent book written by Spanish football expert Guillem Balague explained the extent of which Ferguson could lament a player who he thinks has under-performed.

‘In the dressing room, Ferguson could not contain himself: “Who do you think you are? Trying to play by yourself? You’ll never be a player if you do this!” Balague writes.
