Diego Costa was tired of being constantly micro-managed by Chelsea boss Antonio Conte against Leicester City so he challenged his manager to take him off.

It was thought Costa was worried about a possible suspension if he picked up another yellow or was carrying a slight knock, but various reports claim it is because he was fed up with being shouted at from the touchline.

Chelsea’s top scorer this season was again on the scoresheet on Saturday with the Spain international opening the scoring on the way to a 3-0 victory.

But with the always animated Conte continuing to scream at his players and issue instructions from the sidelines, the 28-year-old grew tired with the constant nagging.

As a result, Costa challenged his manager to remove him if he was so unhappy with his performance with Chelsea 2-0 up at the time.

Unsurprisingly, Conte was furious with Costa and has told the striker to never challenge him in such a way ever again.

The incident brought back memories of a similar exchange between Costa and Jose Mourinho last season and the then Chelsea boss left his frontman out for the next game as punishment for the disobedience.

Costa and Conte reportedly exchanged harsh words after the game in which the Blues boss warned him of his behaviour.

Conte was in no mood to defend his player after the game: ‘I know that in football when you are winning 2-0, in 10 or 15 minutes you can be losing.
