Costa, who has become infamous in the Premier League for his furious approach to the game, has been booked four times already this season which will come as little surprise to his former team-mate.

‘When I went to Sporting the club had no money and so brought back Diego Costa, who was on loan,’ Pongolle told Le 10 Sport.

‘I trained with him and he’s a madman, like what you see on TV. It’s hilarious,’ the former Liverpool striker added.

As Pongolle continued to reminisce about the times he trained alongside Costa in 2010, he admitted that the Chelsea striker needs to use his anger to produce his best form on the pitch:

‘Otherwise [away from football], he’s a funny guy but on the field he needs to be angry to be good,’ Pongolle added.
