A former member of the Houses of Representatives, Chief Apollos Emenike Amadi, has described as untrue the bribery allegations levelled against by minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, by two justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Justices John Inyang Okoro and Sylvester Ngwuta had, in a letter to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Mahmoud Mohammed, alleged that Amaechi, who is the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, approached them to influence judgements of the Apex Court as it affects governorship election in Akwa Ibom, Abia, Ekiti and Rivers states.

But speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday, Amadi, who is also a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the allegations were coming at the wrong and should be disregarded by all.

He stated that if it really the minister actually tries to influence judgements of the Supreme Court, the duo would have been in position to report Amaechi to come and give account for what he did, stressing that people should stop chasing shadow.

The former lawmaker said, “It looks like we are living the substance to chase shadow, whatever they are saying now is after thought. They would have said it for long time or reported him to the authority that was in place, appropriate action would have been taken or they go to court, so that the person in question will come there to defend himself.”

Amadi, who recalled that this is not the first the former governor is being accused for what he did not do, expressed pity on those who are accusing him wrongly, saying, “No one can succeed in tarnishing his (Amaechi’s) image because his is a man the Almighty God is always with. Whoever wants to tarnish his image, God will tarnish that person’s image.”

The APC chieftain described the Transport minister as a man that has a free mind, and a man of honour and integrity that always does what is right, pointing out that during the time of budget padding in the House of Representatives, Amaechi was wrongly accused like that, but today, those that accused him then are being prosecuted.

He said, “If you look at his way, his personality, he always go straight in whatever he is doing. If they said he sent some people, we can look at it, but to say he went there himself, I will not believe, it is false and I will stand to defend him because he is not a man of that nature, he can never do it.”
