Senator splashes N73.8m scholarship on 41 children

As part of efforts to tackle the education deficiency in the state, the Senator representing Niger East Senatorial District, Barrister David Umoru, has offered 41 gifted children from villages in Niger State scholarship worth millions of naira to study at various unity schools across the country.


The programme which was kicked started by his Gifted Pupils Initiatives (GPI), will expend over N1.8 million on each of the candidate, amounting to N73, 800, 000 on the 41 candidates per session for a six year secondary education.

He said 297 public schools were selected in the state for the initiative from 99 wards of the nine local government areas of the district, out of which three best pupils were selected to represent each school.

“We selected 297 pupils and registered them for the 2016 National Examination Council (NEC0) national common entrance examinations into federal and unity schools across the country.”
