Jose Mourinho insists his record is not given the respect it merits, while others continue to fawn over the achievements of his arch nemesis Arsene Wenger.

The Special One is set to lock horns with Wenger on Saturday for the first time since he took over at Old Trafford, looking to protect his unbeaten league record against the Frenchman.

Despite having won his last Premier League title only 18 months ago, Mourinho feels has reputation has been unfairly tarnished by the acrimonious nature of his departure from Chelsea last December, while Wenger, he perceives, enjoys a comparatively favourable ride, despite not having won a significant trophy since 2004.

‘I think Mr Wenger has that respect from all of you, I don’t think I have. My last Premier League title was 18 months ago not 18 years go, I don’t get that respect to be honest,’ he said.

‘I just follow my way because I want to win a ninth championship and I want to win a fourth Premier League.’

The feud between two of the most iconic managers in Premier League history dates back to 2004, when Mourinho’s Chelsea inherited Arsenal’s mantle as the best team in England.

Despite numerous spats in the intervening years, Mourinho did at least concede Saturday’s crunch clash represented the meeting of the two most successful managers currently plying their trade in the Premier League.

‘The record against any other manager being good or bad is not important for me,’ he added. ‘The only thing that matters is what you get as a team, our team’s results, our CV if you want to go in that direction and in the Premier League tomorrow is a match between the two managers with the best record in the Premier League.

‘Sir Alex Ferguson is not here anymore and tomorrow between the two managers we are speaking about I think six or seven Premier League titles, I’m not sure. I have three I think and Mr Wenger has three.’

  1. In the least. I think Jose has been humbled into recognising Wenger not as a failure but as one of the most successful managers in the EPL. Tomorrow March is a big decider especially for wenger in the title race.
