Soldiers attached to the 144 Battalion, Asa, Ukwa West council area of Abia State, have arrested 3 persons over the attempted kidnap of a 3-year-old baby at Abayi Umuokoroato community, Obingwa council area.

The suspects identified as Chimeremeze Nwauzo, Chinatu Nwauzo and Chinedu Appolos were said to have been nabbed following a tip-off after they allegedly attempted to abduct one Glory Ndubuisi, aged 3 and demand ransom from her parents.

A source who declined to have his name on print said that soldiers are making efforts to arrest other members of the syndicate who are now at large.

In a related development, members of Umuimo community vigilante have arrested a suspected kidnapper, Agoro Onyedikachi of Amuzu village in Osisioma Ngwa council, Abia state, for allegedly abducting one Julius Okwuono at gunpoint.

It was gathered that the victim had paid N200, 000 to regain his freedom on August 18, 2016, but the suspect after collecting the ransom continued threatening the victim and demanding another N100,000 or risk being kidnapped again.

Luck, however, ran out on the suspect as he was arrested after collecting the said ransom from the victim.

Sources from the community hinted that the suspect has been handed over to the Police, but the spokesman of the Abia state Police command, ASP Ogbonnaya Nta, could not be reached as the time of filing this report.
