The 34-year-old Swede has made a terrific impact since arriving at Old Trafford on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, and is now spending a few days in Milan.

Ibrahimovic was praised greatly by his manager for his starring role in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Leicester City, and it’s clear that United will want to keep their talisman fresh for the long campaign ahead.

Impressively for a player of his age, the former Sweden international has played 90 minutes in each of his five Premier League games so far, so may already be exceeding expectations to some degree.

United are preparing to take on Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League this week, and it’s little surprise that Mourinho is taking the opportunity to shuffle his pack for a competition he won’t view as a top priority.

According to the Daily Mirror, Ibrahimovic has been given permission to take a short break, but fellow new-boy Henrikh Mkhitaryan could be back in contention for a place after returning from a thigh injury.
