Following continued loss of lives and property during carnivals in Ibadan, Oyo State, the state police command on Monday reminded the residents of the state that the law prohibiting carnivals is still very much in force.


It said the three suspects arrested in connection with the bloody Ileya carnival in Ekotedo have been arraigned in court.

The command also disclosed that two leaders of the rival cult groups that unleashed mayhem on the people during the festival have been declared wanted.

The two leaders of the rival cult groups are Okungbemi and Ojowelili.

The state police commissioner, Mr. Samuel Adegbuyi had warned that it would deal ruthlessly with any individual or groups of persons found staging carnival in any part of the state.

Speaking with the Newsmen on the effort of the police to apprehend the two cult groups’ leaders, the state police spokesperson, Mr. Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the duo are still on the run.

“The two leaders have been declared wanted and the police are doing everything possible to bring them to justice. We are still looking for them. The law banning carnival in the state is still in force. And the people are reminded that the police will not allow any break down of law and order in the state.

“Already, I can tell you that three suspects were arrested in connection with bloody carnival and the police had arraigned them in court , while the two rival group leaders are still been hunted by the police, ” the police spokesman said.
