Kano state Deputy Governor, Professor Hafiz Abubakar, has canvased the need for a paradigm shift in Nigeria’s agricultural policy and investment in order to achieve a desired result in the economic diversification efforts.
He made the call while declaring open the 13th national conference of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) holding in Kano.
Professor Abubakar said that for a long time Nigeria’s agricultural policy has been concentrating on promotion of production aspect, while ignoring other value chain of the sector.
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has implored both the federal and state governments to quickly resolve its 13 point demands which it said constrained it to embark on a 9-month strike between October 2013 and July 2014.

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics has decried the non-payment of 10 months salaries in 14 institutions.
Chika Ogonwa, the ASUP’s Coordinator, Zone ‘D’, made this known in a media briefing after an emergency meeting of the union in Owerri, the Imo State capital, on Wednesday.
