    Bayelsa varsity lecturers call off four months strike

    Lecturers at the Bayelsa state-owned University, Niger Delta University (NDU), Ammassoma in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the State has called off its four months old strike action.

    The decision to call off the strike action followed the meeting and the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, between the Bayelsa state government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Niger Delta University chapter.

    The Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Seriake Dickson, has failed to resolve the ongoing industrial action involving all categories of workers at the only state-owned Niger Delta University (NDU) five months after the institution was shut down.

    Investigations revealed that the closure of the institution has dealt deadly blows on the students and lecturers who are at the receiving end of idleness and economic hardship caused by non-payment of salaries.

    Bayelsa varsity students take to the street, threaten to protest nude over lecturers’ strike

    Some students of the Bayelsa State-owned Niger Delta University, Amassoma, have taken to the streets to protest the indefinite closure of the university.

    The lecturers of the institution had on April 28 gone on an indefinite strike, following the inability of the Governor Seriake Dickson to pay the backlog of workers’ salaries.

    As of the time the strike began, the state government owed the university staff salaries of four months.
