    Benue government signs MoU to boost agriculture

    The Benue state Government on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding worth €400 million, with the Humanitarian Environmental Project Company  for the mechanisation of agriculture in the state.

    Speaking during the ceremony at the People’s House in Makurdi, Wim Belt, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of HEPC, said the project would provide 5,000 jobs and education to the local populace.

    Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state on Friday said the state government would not concede any part of its land for establishment of grazing reserve for herdsmen in the state.

    Ortom made this known during the handing-over and inauguration of Daudu Shelter Project for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Guma Local Government Area of the state.

    Man, 31, jailed for duping police officer in Benue

    A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced 31-year-old applicant, Gideon Chubu, to 12 months imprisonment for impersonating a soldier and duping a mobile police officer of N40,000.

    Mr. Chubu was arraigned on a two-count charge, bordering on cheating and impersonation, punishable under Section 326 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue, 2004.

    The Magistrate, Lillian Tsumba, sentenced Mr. Chubu to 12 months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the crime and begged the court for leniency.
