Zimbabwe’s President, Robert Mugabe has called for calm as his government battles to contain a biting economic crisis.
The 92-year-old president who appeared frail but jovial, struggled with his lines but managed to deliver a 30-minute State of the Nation address on Tuesday.
He praised the country’s security forces for maintaining order, although critics accuse them of using violence to stifle dissent.

Appeals have gone out to members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other Igbos to accept the outcome of today’s court ruling on the bail application of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu to avoid unnecessary killing of unarmed civilians by security agents.
The appeal was made by IPOB leadership which said it was not expecting anything good from the court because the president had ordered the judiciary not to release its leader, during his media broadcast on December 30, 2015.
According to reports, the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has condemned the assassination of the Chairman, Kogi Chapter of Wuro Miyetti-Allah Association, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar.
Speaking in a press statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Petra Akinti Onyegbule, the governor condemns the killing, and is already working with security agencies to unravel the incident.
Bello in the statement beg that the prevailing calm in the wake of the unfortunate crime be sustained, and strongly discouraged extrajudicial reaction from any quarters.
