    Security agents, Shiites clash in Kano, nine feared killed

    Nine persons were feared killed yesterday when security agents and members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), otherwise known as Shi’ites clashed in Kano over the yearly procession of the group.

    Eight Shi’ite members and one policeman were killed while others from both sides suffered serious injuries.

    Members of the Shiite Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) on Monday morning clashed with the police in Kano city, leaving no fewer than 10 persons, including a police officer dead.

    A witness said the clash started around Tamburawa, on the outskirts of Kano city, when the police tried to stop a Shiite protest.

    The struggle for supremacy between suspected rival cult groups have claimed two lives in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.
