    Communities in Niger Delta drag Shell to London court

    Hearing has started yesterday at Britain’s High Court on new lawsuits filed by two communities in Rivers state, Ogale and Bille, alleging that decades of oil spills have fouled the water and destroyed the lives of thousands of fishermen and farmers in the Niger Delta, where a Shell subsidiary has operated since the 1950s.

    At least 22 persons were killed in separate attacks this week by suspected Boko Haram gunmen in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State, security sources said.

    The attacks were carried out between Monday and Tuesday, according to a top official of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria in Borno State, Abbas Gava.
