According to reports, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company says it will procure and install 80,000 meters free of charge to more customers under its mass metering project.
A statement by AEDC’s Head, Public Relations and Media, Ahmed Shekarau, stated that the Managing Director of AEDC, Ernest Mupwaya, announced this when the management of Bureau of Public Enterprises visited the AEDC office.
Mupwaya said the meters were in addition to the 57,000 installed for customers through the Credited Advance Payment for Metering Implementation.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission says over four million electricity consumers are yet to get prepaid meters in the country.
Dr. Anthony Akah, the Acting Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NERC, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Saturday.

The Federal Government has outlawed the procurement of transformers by electricity consumers, maintaining that it remains the duty of distribution companies (Discos).
