A reversal of roles in which the law is enforced against the chief law enforcer may be witnessed in Lagos State on August 11, 2016 as a Magistrates Court is set to determine an application for the committal to prison of a sitting Commissioner of Police for alleged contempt.
The Magistrate, M.O. Olajuwon, has summoned the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, to appear before her on that day to show cause why he should not be committed to prison.
Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday berated the Department of State Security for flaunting an order of the court to remand a defendant in prison.
Dimgba had ordered that retired Air Commodore Umar Mohammed, who was arraigned before him on Thursday, be remanded in Kuje Prison pending the hearing of his bail application.

According to reports, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday secured a warrant from a court to detain a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Otunba Iyiola Omisore, in connection with the ongoing investigation of N1.310billion illegally allocated to him and three companies by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday obtained a court order to further detain Femi Fani-Kayoe, a former Minister of Aviation and spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation.

For allegedly flouting a court order by Justice Peter Affen of the Abuja High Court asking that Austrian security expert, Wolgang Reinl, be released from “unlawful” detention, a contempt charge has been filed against the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.
