    Navy seizes 253,000 litres of stolen diesel

    Nigerian Navy Ship Pathfinder in Port Harcourt on Tuesday impounded 253,000 litres of illegally refined diesel loaded in two vessels and one wooden badge.

    Cdr. Raphael Ekuma, the NNS Pathfinder Base Operation Officer, paraded four suspects and the vessels before newsmen in Onne, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers.

    The two vessels–MV Omiete VI and MV Wood Pecker– and a wooden barge had suspected stolen diesel worth N36.68 million.

    Six persons were yesterday arrested for stealing diesel belonging to the Estate and Works Department of the National Assembly.

     

    Two of the culprits were said to be National Assembly staff while the other four came from outside the complex.

    The suspects were reportedly caught in the act but one of them escaped in the process of trying to arrest them by security operatives at the National Assembly.

    According to reports, the Nigerian Navy has seized three boats with 47,000 litres of product suspected to be illegally refined Automative Gas Oil.

    A Commander in the Nigerian Navy, Commodore Saidu Garba, who said this in Ikot Abasi on Saturday, praised the anti-crude oil theft operations of the Navy for achieving the results.

    Firm produces kerosene, diesel, alum from waste

    An Ibadan-based firm, Educational Advancement Centre (EAC) has produced kerosene, diesel and alum from waste plastic and cans, instead of crude oil.

    The discoveries were launched during an exhibition at Bodija, Ibadan headquarters of the firm. The exhibition also featured showcasing of some educational materials, including software and other educational technological materials.

    Consumers paid an average monthly price of N310 per litre for Household Kerosene (HHK), across the 36 States and Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to the latest report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

    The price is even more in Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Borno and Cross River at N362, N323, N321, N312 and N350 respectively.
