As controversy trails debt owed electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) by Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs), Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola has warned DISCOs to stop blackmailing the Federal Government over the issue.
He said no amount of harassment from DISCOs would make him offset MDAs power consumption debts without verification.

It was gathered that the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors on Wednesday said it had no plan to increase the current tariff being paid by consumers.
The ANED Executive Director, Research and Advocacy, Mr. Sunday Oduntan, said that the Distribution Companies had not submitted any proposal to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission on tariff increase.
He said, “It is not true that we want to increase the tariff by 200 per cent because we do not have any right to do so.
Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), will sanction Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) and other distribution companies whose officials collect illegal fees from consumers to purchase transformer for installations in various localities.

It was gathered that the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) has disclosed that the total debt being owed it by the Federal Government through its ministries, departments and agencies as at December 2015 was N60 billion.
This was revealed by Sunday Oduntan, Executive Director, research and advocacy for ANED, on Tuesday, at a media briefing in Abuja, where he explained that the debt was around N58 billion as of December 2015, but had now hit N60 billion in Q1 2016.
