The management of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) on Saturday apologised to customers over continuous shortage of electricity supply.
A statement by Mr Godwin Idemudia, the company’s Head of Corporate Communications in Lagos, blamed the shortage on a drastic reduction in the amount of electricity coming to EKEDC from the national grid.
According to the statement, the company could only distribute what was allocated to it from the national grid.

Nigeria is set to experience a prolonged epileptic power supply as generation from the Egbin station crashed to a record low of 172 megawatts on Tuesday, down from 1,085MW on March 15.
According to industry data, eight of the nation’s 26 power plants were idle on Tuesday.

According to reports, the House of Representatives on Wednesday directed the Ministry of Works/Power/Housing to urgently complete power projects in Magboro, Ibafo and 198 other communities in Ogun State with a view to linking the areas to the national grid.

Minster of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babtunde Raji Fashola, has expressed the Federal Governments readiness to spend 150 million dollars on rural electrification.

It was gathered that the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors on Wednesday said it had no plan to increase the current tariff being paid by consumers.
The ANED Executive Director, Research and Advocacy, Mr. Sunday Oduntan, said that the Distribution Companies had not submitted any proposal to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission on tariff increase.

Former governor of Lagos State and Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, said, yesterday, that Nigeria’s electricity problem is man-made.
Fashola, who spoke at the maiden edition of Made in Nigeria Festival taking place at Eko Atlantic, Lagos, said his blueprint for the power sector is in three phases: power-generation, steady supply of power and uninterrupted power supply.
