    Nigeria will soon become major power in rice exportation – Ogbeh assures Nigerians

    According to reports, the Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has assured Nigerians that with measures adopted by the Federal Government, the country would soon transmute into a rice exporting country within one year.

    Ogbeh gave the assurance in Hadejia and Auyo local government areas in Jigawa State when he visited to ascertain the level of rice production in the zone, assuring that rice production in the country was part of efforts designed to discourage the importation of the commodity.

    It was gathered that the Chief Security Supervisor of Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) and three others are currently being interrogated by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for their alleged involvement in the exportation of 144kg of Ephedrine to Maputo, Mozambique.

    The House of Representatives has mandated its Committees on Agriculture, and Commerce and Industry to investigate the extension of the ban on the exportation of Nigeria’s dried beans into European countries.

    This followed a motion by Rep. Ferdinand Nwankwo (PDP-Anambra) under matters of urgent public importance on Wednesday, which was unanimously adopted by members through a voice vote.

    The Federal Government has banned wood and charcoal exportation, following exporters’ refusal to adhere to the directive of cut-one plant-two policy.
